Community Tree Planting

10:00 AM | 5028 Queensville Sideroad, East Gwillimbury

Celebrate the York Regional Forest’s centennial with a family-friendly day of tree planting, gloves and shovels provided! This event is an opportunity to enjoy time with your loved ones and have a positive impact on our community and the planet. This year, in celebration of the 100th anniversary, each participant will receive a free tree seedling, grown from seeds collected in York Region, to plant at home and continue the legacy of growth.

Important to note, as the event site is still under development and not yet open to the public, there are no established walkways, paths or trails. With ongoing construction, the area may be muddy, so we advise wearing appropriate footwear and clothing. This location is only being used for the tree-planting event, offering a rare opportunity to see a new part of the York Regional Forest before it officially opens!

Repair Cafe

11:00 AM | 19513 Yonge Street

Repair Cafés are a chance to bring broken items back to life.

Have you been holding on to an item that just needs a quick fix like a button to be sewn, a vacuum needing a new cord, or a bicycle needing a wheel alignment? Then Repair Café may be the place for you.

A Repair Café is an event where people can bring a variety of household items to be fixed for free. Whether you’re unsure how to do the repair, or don’t have the space, or the right tools, the Repair Café offers a solution. Repair Cafés are provided in partnership with The Regional Municipality of York and delivered by NewMakeit.  Our volunteer fixers are available to assess your needs and will do their best to fix your item.  Repairs are never guaranteed, and participants should be aware that our fixers are not responsible for fixing items or returning them to the state with which they arrived at the Café.   For more information about The Repair Café or to volunteer as a fixer please visit Repair Cafe | York Region

Repair Café specialties* include:

  • Bicycles
  • Jewelry
  • Sewing needs (small tears and repairs)
  • Small appliances
  • Toys

Upon check out please include a note describing the item you are bringing to be fixed so we can plan accordingly

  • Visitors offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk. Experts making repairs offer no guarantee for the repairs carried out with their help and are not liable if objects that are repaired in the Repair Café turn out not to work properly at home.
  • Fixers are entitled to refuse to repair certain objects at their own discretion.
