Celebrate freedom by joining Mayor and Council at the Emancipation Day Flag Raising Ceremony at the Civic Centre at 3:30 p.m. on July 28. Observed annually on August 1, Emancipation Day commemorates the abolition of slavery in the British Empire and honours the legacy and contributions of Black communities.

Attendees will enjoy an African drumming performance by Negus Medhin and complimentary refreshments. Following the ceremony, attendees can shop and support the following local Black-owned businesses participating in Music and Market Night:

Join us every Tuesday in July and August for Music and Market Nights, filled with live music, food and artisan vendors, fun and more! Admission for this event is free, with food and items for sale as part of the Vendor Market.
