PURPOSE OF THIS NOTICE
The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) has initiated
the process to designate a Heritage Conservation
District (HCD) for the historic community of Sharon,
as well as the creation of a Heritage Strategy to guide
heritage conservation efforts within the Town.
On July 23, 2024, Council adopted the Heritage
Conservation District (HCD) Study and directed
staff to proceed to Phase 2 of the Sharon HCD
project in accordance with the proposed
HCD boundaries illustrated in Appendix 1 to
Development Services Report DS2024-18.
In 2023 a capital budget request was also submitted
for consideration as part of the Towns 2024 budget
review process for a Heritage Strategy. Council
approved the recommendation, and work began
in 2024 on the initiative which included two
presentations to Committee of the Whole Council.
PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION
Each public information session will begin with
a presentation on the Heritage Conservation
District as well as the Heritage Strategy.
The room will be set up with tables and chairs
with material on which to provide comments.
Representatives from the Town and the Consultant
teams will be available to answer questions and
discuss the Heritage Conservation District and
Heritage Strategy. Feedback from attendees
will inform the final version of the Heritage
Conservation District and Heritage Strategy.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Before making a decision regarding adoption
of the Heritage Conservation District and
Heritage Study, Council has requested further
consultation with residents of the Town and
property owners within the HCD boundary.
